Chewton was once the thriving heart of the Forest Creek diggings and is now a picturesque area surrounded by bushland and the Castlemaine Diggings National Heritage Park; Australia's first heritage park.
One of the most extraordinary gold heritage landmarks in the region is nearby and within the heritage park. The remains of the Garfield Water Wheel are a lasting monument to the enormity of the gold rush.
Visitors can also visit the original Town Hall or take a self-guided tour of the area.
