Traditionally home to great art festivals and galleries, the Mount Alexander Shire has been steadily attracting artists to the region as their chosen place to live, work and display for many years. The resulting studios and galleries present a fascinating array of sculptors, painters, glass blowers, musicians and crafts people which the visitor will find absorbing.

A variety of routes can take you across our diverse and beautiful land. The range of walks available is suitable for the leisurely stroll or the more experienced bush walker. Relics of early mining ventures can be discovered through the "Mount Alexander Diggings". The Diggings trail tells the story of the Mount Alexander Gold Rush, and the train of events it set in motion, by guiding people to authentic sites associated with the rush. The Diggings feature a range of historically significant sites ranging from disused water wheels to former battering ram sites.
The historical societies located within the Mount Alexander Shire hold a range of early directories, local records and combined have a great source of local knowledge.
