With departures every hour between 6am and 10.30pm from Southern Cross Station, Castlemaine is only 90 minutes travel time from Melbourne by train. V/Line's modern and comfortable trains are a perfect way to sit back, relax and enjoy the journey.
With the Castlemaine Station centrally located within town, taking the train makes for a great day trip. For those wanting to stay longer, many accommodation providers are also happy to pick up and drop off guests from the station.

Castlemaine Bus Lines operates a regular bus service between Castlemaine and Maldon. For further details please visit www.viclink.com.au From November 1st 2008, a weekend service will also be operating. This service will include both towns' railway stations and both of the prisons in the Shire, with the timetable aligned to the V/Line and Victorian Goldfields Railway timetables for visitors' convenience.
