The region is graced by the presence of significant historical gardens like Castlemaine Botanical Gardens and Buda Historic Home & Garden.

GardensWith its monumental pillars, carriage drive and water features, the beautiful heritage-listed Castlemaine Botanical Gardens provide a perfect glimpse of a 19th century designed landscape.  They also boast one of the oldest known cultivated trees in Victoria - an English Oak planted in 1867.

A walk through the garden at Buda Historic Home & Garden offers a rare insight into the ideals and aspirations of two generations of a family of keen gardeners.  See the elaborate Victorian-style flower-bed, the garden pavilion and the unique collection of 'formal garden' plantings.

Many residents in the area of Castlemaine and Maldon have been gifted with the enviable 'green-thumb'.  Their gardens are often displayed as part of Open Garden Schemes and also every second year with the well-established Festival of Gardens event.

Spectacular regional and national parks surround the region.  The natural beauty and heritage is magnificent.

The Castlemaine Diggings National Heritage Park harbours fascinating tales of the golden past and retains much of its gold-rush character.  From the evocative remains of house sites and puddling machines to the gold mines and gullies that yielded up fortunes.  The park is Australia’s first National Heritage Park.
